How to Reset Your Google (Play Store) Password
1. If You Still Have Access to Your Phone
If you are currently logged into your phone but just forgot the password (or want to change it), do this:
Open your phone Settings.
Scroll down and tap Google.
Tap Manage your Google Account.
Switch to the Security tab at the top.
Under "How you sign in to Google," tap on Password.
Note: You may be asked to verify it's you using your screen lock (Fingerprint, Face ID, or PIN).
Enter your new password and tap Change Password.
2. If You Are Locked Out (Account Recovery)
If you can’t get past the login screen, you’ll need to use Google’s recovery tools:
Go to the Google Account Recovery page on any browser (mobile or desktop).
Enter your Gmail address or the phone number linked to the account.
Google will ask a series of questions to verify you. These may include:
Entering a previous password you remember.
Receiving a code via text or a backup email.
Tapping "Yes" on a notification sent to another device you own.
Once verified, you’ll be prompted to create a new, strong password.
💡 Tips for Android Recovery
Use a familiar "Home Base": Google tracks the location and Wi-Fi network you usually use. You are much more likely to succeed with a recovery if you do it from your home or office Wi-Fi on a device you've used before.
The 24-Hour Rule: If you plan on doing a Factory Reset on your phone, wait at least 24 hours after changing your password. Android’s "Factory Reset Protection" (FRP) may lock the phone for a full day after a password change for security.
Check "Google Play Services": If you change your password on a computer, your Android phone might show a "Sign-in error" notification. Just tap it and enter your new password to re-sync your apps.
